London–Abu Dhabi is roughly six hours fifty nonstop and wants a heavy or ultra-long-range aircraft with a full cabin. It is the same class of leg as Dubai and priced accordingly; the difference is entirely at the other end, where Abu Dhabi has something Dubai does not.
Al Bateen Executive Airport (AZI) sits inside the city, minutes from the Corniche and Emirates Palace, and handles business aviation only — no airline schedules to queue behind, no long taxi, and a general-aviation terminal that is the whole airport rather than a corner of one. For most private arrivals it is simply the right answer. Its runway is shorter than Zayed’s, so the heaviest aircraft at full payload go to Zayed International (AUH) instead, twenty minutes further out, which has its own private terminal.
We pick between the two on aircraft type and payload rather than habit, and we say which one before you book. If the trip is really a Dubai trip, note that Dubai’s Al Maktoum is about seventy-five minutes up the road — sometimes the better field even when the hotel is in Abu Dhabi.
Al Bateen vs Zayed International
Al Bateen (AZI) is business aviation only and in the city — the fastest arrival in the Emirates and the one we default to. Zayed International (AUH) takes the largest aircraft at full payload and has a dedicated private terminal, at the cost of twenty minutes on the road. Aircraft and payload decide, not preference.

Heavy or ultra-long-range for a full cabin nonstop from London. A super-midsize will do it westbound in favourable winds and can need a technical stop eastbound against a winter jet stream, which we say before you book rather than at the fuel stop.
Grand Prix week is the squeeze
The Formula 1 season finale runs 3–6 December 2026 at Yas Marina, and it is the single tightest window of the year for aircraft, slots and parking across both Emirates. Ramp space at Al Bateen and AUH is allocated, not simply available. Six to eight weeks’ notice is the difference between the aircraft you want and whatever is left.
