Mykonos airport is 4 km from the town, about ten minutes by car, and run by Fraport Greece. The runway, 16/34, is roughly 1,900 m. That suits light and midsize jets well. Larger cabins need their performance checked against it, especially on a hot afternoon.
The summer rules
- Ground time: a Greek NOTAM, usually in force from 1 May to 30 September, limits visiting aircraft to about forty minutes on the ground.
- No parking: aircraft cannot stay on the island in season. They reposition, almost always to Athens, about 35 minutes away.
- Slots: the airport is fully coordinated and scheduled airlines take priority. Slots for private flights open only 14 days before the movement, with prior permission required.
In practice, luggage must come off quickly and the car must be at the aircraft, not the kerb. The return flight starts from Athens, so the aircraft positions back for your departure. That repositioning is part of the price and the timing.
Planning the London end
Because Mykonos slots are confirmed so late, the departure time from London is often fixed last. Farnborough’s weekend hours, 08:00 to 20:00, and Luton’s coordinated slots both have to line up with the Greek one. The flight is around three hours forty in a midsize jet, so an early London departure lands in time for lunch.
