Marbella’s four main villa areas differ more than the listings suggest. Here is how they compare.
La Zagaleta
La Zagaleta sits in the hills of Benahavís. It covers 900 hectares, with about 250 villas built and permission for up to 420. Only around a third of the land can be built on. There is a main gate staffed day and night, a second monitored entrance, CCTV and patrols. Residents and their guests share two private golf courses, an equestrian centre and the country club. Puerto Banús is about 18 minutes away and Málaga airport about 45.
Sierra Blanca
Sierra Blanca is much smaller, about 25 hectares and some 300 homes. It is gated, but day visitors can enter. That makes it easier for friends and staff to come and go.
The Golden Mile
The Golden Mile runs about 6.4 km west from Marbella towards Puerto Banús. It is where the Marbella Club opened in 1954. Houses here are near the beach clubs and restaurants, which suits clients who want to walk out to lunch.
Guadalmina
Guadalmina, by San Pedro de Alcántara, is the quiet family choice. Guadalmina Baja runs down to the beach. The Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, the area’s first golf club, has two 18-hole courses, and the lower one reaches the shore. Puerto Banús is about 7 km away.
