Geneva is home to private banks, commodity trading houses and international organisations. A morning arrival leaves a full working day in the city, and the business aviation terminal is a short drive from the centre.
Winter in the Alps
From December to April, Geneva is the gateway to the French and Swiss resorts. By helicopter, Courchevel is about thirty minutes and Verbier about twenty-five. Saturdays in the ski season are the busiest for private traffic at Geneva, so a Friday or Sunday arrival is usually smoother.
For Verbier, Sion airport is also an option and is closer by road. We choose between them on weather and on the size of the aircraft.
Entry
Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so Nigerian passport holders need a Schengen visa. A UK visa does not cover it.
Onward to Gstaad and the smaller fields
The long-range jet stays at Geneva. For Gstaad, a smaller aircraft or helicopter can continue to Saanen airfield, a few minutes from the village, or the drive takes about two hours. For Courchevel, the altiport takes only helicopters and small specialist aircraft, so the helicopter is the usual link.
In winter, mountain weather can close the helicopter routes for hours. We plan a car as the fallback on the same booking, so a cancelled flight does not strand you at the airport.
