Why private jet quotes from Nigeria change: fuel, positioning and timing

Clients who fly from Nigeria often notice that the same route costs a different amount from one month to the next. That is not haggling. It reflects a handful of costs that move, and knowing them helps you get a better figure. As published guides, Lagos to London starts from around £75,000 one-way and Lagos to Dubai from around £70,000. Here is what moves the number either side of that.

Where the aircraft is

Positioning is the largest variable. Far fewer long-range jets are based in West Africa than in Europe or the Gulf. If the nearest suitable aircraft is in Lagos, you pay for the flight you take. If it has to come from Europe, you also pay for it to fly in empty, and often to fly home again.

The same logic explains why Abuja quotes are rarely cheaper than Lagos ones, even when the distance is shorter. Most jets start in Lagos and fly an empty hour to Abuja first.

Fuel

Fuel is one of the largest costs of any flight, and Jet A1 in Nigeria has been expensive and volatile through 2026. ThisDay reported that the price peaked at around ₦3,500 a litre after Middle East tensions in late February, then eased to about ₦2,500, where it has stayed. Operators sometimes carry extra fuel from cheaper airports abroad, which affects how much load the aircraft can take.

Crew duty and the shape of the trip

Crews have strict limits on how long they can work. A same-day return from Lagos to Abuja is easy; a long-haul trip with a quick turnaround may need a second crew. For a stay of a few nights, the aircraft can wait for you. For a longer stay, it is usually cheaper for it to go home and come back. We price both ways and show the difference.

Permits and the calendar

Foreign-registered aircraft need a Nigerian landing permit, which takes days to process. A late booking narrows the choice to aircraft that can be cleared in time, and a narrow choice costs more. Peak dates, around the school terms and the Christmas holidays, push prices up for the same reason: the few suitable aircraft are booked first.

Currency

International charter is priced in pounds, dollars or euros, because aircraft, fuel abroad, insurance and crews are paid in those currencies. We do not publish naira prices, because the exchange rate would make any figure out of date within days. The quote is fixed in its currency once you confirm, and we accept card, UK bank transfer or crypto.

How to get a better figure

  • Book early for school-term and holiday dates.
  • Be flexible by a day either side; it can bring a better-placed aircraft into reach.
  • Ask about empty legs. An aircraft returning to Europe after dropping someone in Lagos can fly you at a fraction of the usual cost, if your dates fit its schedule. See empty legs.
  • Size the aircraft to the trip. Tell us passengers and luggage, and we will not quote a bigger jet than you need.

Good to know

How much is a private jet from Lagos to London?
As a published guide, from around £75,000 one-way. The exact figure depends on where the aircraft is based, the date, fuel and the length of your stay.
Why do you not quote private jet prices in naira?
International charter costs are paid in pounds, dollars or euros, and the exchange rate moves too quickly for a naira figure to stay accurate. The quote is fixed in its currency once you confirm.
Why is Abuja to London not cheaper than Lagos to London?
Most long-range jets are based in Lagos, so the aircraft usually flies to Abuja empty first. That positioning cancels out the shorter distance.
How can I reduce the cost of a private jet from Nigeria?
Book early for peak dates, stay flexible by a day, ask about empty legs, and tell us passengers and luggage so the aircraft is sized to the trip.
