Where to stay
- Miami Beach and South Beach: the beachfront, the convention centre where the fair is held and the Art Deco district.
- Mid-Beach and North Beach: larger resort hotels and more space, a car ride from the fair.
- Design District and Wynwood: galleries, showrooms and murals on the mainland, across the bay from the beach.
- Brickell and Downtown: the business district, with high-rise hotels and the bay on one side.
- Coconut Grove: leafier and quieter, south of downtown.
Traffic across the causeways is the real constraint in fair week, so choose a base close to where most of your evenings will be.
Which neighbourhood suits whom
South Beach is the choice for first-time guests who want the fair, the beach and the Art Deco streets within reach, and it is also the loudest. Mid-Beach and North Beach suit families and groups who want large resort grounds and a car for the evenings. The Design District and Wynwood suit people who are in town for galleries and design rather than the beach. Brickell is for guests who want a city base, restaurants within walking distance and a short drive to the fair, and Coconut Grove is the calm option. Because the fair is on the beach side, a base on the mainland adds a causeway crossing to every fair-day journey.

Art Basel Miami Beach is listed by Art Basel as 4 to 6 December 2026. Miami Art Week is reported as running from about 30 November to 6 December, with satellite fairs around it; for example, third-party listings give Design Miami as 1 to 6 December 2026, so confirm the dates on designmiami.com before you plan around them. After the fair, the city stays busy through the Christmas and New Year holidays, and the dry, warm weather runs from December to April. Europeans often fly in for the fair and stay on for the holidays, or arrive from a ski week in the Alps a few weeks later.

Dining reservations in fair week
Table availability is the hardest thing to arrange in Art Basel week, because the same restaurants are asked for by thousands of visitors at once. Each restaurant sets its own booking window, deposit and cancellation rules, and we pass them on to you before we confirm anything. Early requests help, as do flexible times: a 6.30pm or 10pm table is far easier to find than 8pm on the Friday. Private dining rooms and buy-outs need longer, so tell us the group size and the night you have in mind as soon as you can.

What to book first
Order matters in fair week. Book the hotel first, because beds near the beach go earliest. Then ask for the two or three dinners that matter, and leave the rest flexible. Last, fix the transport: the causeways clog on the fair days and a driver who knows the drop-off points saves real time. If you are flying privately, send the route early, because aircraft and parking slots around the weekend are the scarce thing.
