The AW139 is Leonardo's intermediate twin and the largest helicopter we arrange on these routes. Two Pratt & Whitney PT6C-67C engines give 1,679 shp each on take-off and a maximum cruise of 165 kt.
Leonardo gives the cabin as about 2.69 m long, 2.11 m wide and 1.42 m high, with 8 m³ of volume. It calls it the largest passenger cabin in its class. Large sliding doors make boarding with children or bags straightforward.
Leonardo certifies up to 15 passengers. VIP layouts seat fewer, and our strip shows twelve.
Behind the cabin is a 3.4 m³ baggage compartment that can be loaded from both sides. That is room for skis, boot bags and suitcases for a large party in one movement. No light helicopter on this site can match it.
Maximum range is 641 nm with an auxiliary tank and no reserve. Maximum endurance on the same basis is 5 hours 38 minutes. The main gearbox can run for 60 minutes without oil, and the main rotor is a fully articulated five-blade design. The type also meets Category A performance, so it can either continue or stop safely if an engine fails on take-off.
It earns its place on Geneva to Courchevel and Geneva to Verbier when ten or more people arrive on one jet. Moving the whole party at once avoids staggered rotations and a split arrival at the chalet.
On the Riviera it suits a large group on Nice to Saint-Tropez. Its 6,400 kg maximum weight is also within the ten-tonne limit Monaco sets for its heliport. In the Alps, Leonardo's in-ground-effect hover ceiling of 4,672 m leaves ample margin at the resort pads.
The H145 carries up to eight in standard layouts and is lighter and smaller. Choose the AW139 when the party or the luggage outgrows it.
