Reaching La Fontelina and planning the day
La Fontelina sits on the rocks facing the Faraglioni, the three stacks off Capri's south-east coast. The nearest, Stella, rises 109 metres and is joined to the island. The family has run the place since 1949, when the present owners' grandparents opened a trattoria here.
Three ways to arrive
- On foot: about thirty minutes from the Piazzetta, along Via Camerelle and Via Tragara. The last 300 metres go down a path through myrtle from the Belvedere di Tragara. Wear proper shoes for that path.
- By taxi boat: from Marina Piccola, at the Scoglio delle Sirene. Return boats run every half hour in the afternoon.
- By private boat: there is a mooring field off the rocks. The skipper calls the club on VHF channel 10.
For guests with limited mobility, the boat from Marina Piccola is far easier than the path.
The 2026 season
La Fontelina opened daily from 18 April to 11 October 2026. It closed on 24 May for a private event. Return boats ran until 5.30pm in the low season and 6.30pm in high season, so plan the afternoon around the last one.
Peak-season terms
From 29 May to 13 September, beach bookings carry a per-person minimum. The beach place, lunch and drinks all count towards it. A restaurant-only booking is exempt, which suits guests who come just for lunch.
Who it suits
It suits a long lunch and an afternoon of swimming from the rocks. It is less suited to small children, as there is no sand.
