Where a La Môme bill comes from, and how to steer it

Sharing plates

The menu is built around plates to share. The bill therefore grows with the number of plates on the table, not only the number of guests. Order a first round for the table and add more as the evening goes, rather than ordering everything at once.

The premium lines

Truffle dishes, such as the truffle risotto, are the lines that move the food total most. Fish and meat from the grill and plancha are the other main driver. Ask the waiter which dishes are priced by weight before ordering for a group.

The bar

The bar at the entrance pours cocktails with focaccia before dinner. A drink there while the table is prepared is a pleasant start. If a host is setting a limit, agree the wine with the waiter at the start rather than bottle by bottle.

A different bill across the street

Settling the bill

The bill is settled with the restaurant on the night. For a host paying for a large table, it helps to tell the waiter at the start who will be paying. That keeps the end of the evening simple.
