By road
Geneva to Verbier is roughly two hours in clear conditions. The first ninety minutes are easy motorway along Lake Geneva and up the Rhône valley to Martigny. The difficulty is the climb from Le Châble to Verbier, a series of switchbacks that a snowfall slows to a crawl and that a Saturday changeover can add an hour to on its own. Swiss roads are cleared quickly, but winter tyres are expected and a transfer company that knows the road is worth more here than anywhere else on the route.

By train: the honest answer
Geneva to Verbier by train is one of the more asked-about journeys in the Alps, and it works better than people expect. Trains leave from the airport station itself: Geneva Airport to Martigny is about 1h30 to 1h45 on the main line along the lake, then a change onto the small regional train up the valley to Le Châble, about half an hour. From Le Châble the gondola rises straight into Verbier, or a car does the last climb in fifteen. Door to door it is roughly two and a half to three hours, punctual to the minute in the Swiss way, and cheap.
It is the right answer for two people with a bag each and a daylight arrival. It is the wrong answer for a family with ski bags, a 9pm landing or a chalet high above the centre. By then you want a car at the gate and no changes. We arrange the car; for the train we simply tell you the times.
Sion: the closer airport
Geneva is the gateway for almost everyone, but Verbier has a nearer option. Sion sits in the Rhône valley below the resort and takes turboprops and light jets, which for a group already flying private turns a two-hour road transfer into a short one.
