Why the helicopter
Silverstone runs one of the busiest temporary heliports in Europe on race weekend, and it exists because the roads cannot cope. Twenty minutes from a London heliport against three hours or more sitting on the A43 is the whole argument. We book the slot, the aircraft and the cars at both ends as one arrangement.
What else we arrange
A house or hotel within reach for the weekend rather than a scramble on the Sunday night, cars on the ground, restaurant tables in the Cotswolds or back in London, and the private flight in if you are coming from further afield.
Timing the weekend
Friday practice is the civilised day — the roads still work, the paddock is calmer and you see more of the cars than you do on Sunday. Saturday qualifying is the session most people who know the sport would pick if they only came once. Sunday is the race and the traffic, which is exactly the day the helicopter earns its cost.
If you are coming from outside the UK we bring the private flight into a London airport and run the helicopter leg from there, so the whole journey is one arrangement rather than three.
