Porto Cervo

Porto Cervo Restaurants & Nightlife 2026 — Costa Smeralda

The Costa Smeralda is a marina culture. Porto Cervo was laid out in the 1960s around a harbour rather than a town, the yachts are the population in August, and the evening moves from boat to table to club along a few hundred metres of quay. Two rooms matter after midnight and both fill from the water. Here is how the coast eats, drinks and goes out, and when it is worth being there.

Sunset: Phi Beach

Every Costa Smeralda evening starts at Phi Beach at Baja Sardinia — daybeds on the granite rocks, a serious restaurant above and DJs carrying the room from sunset into a club under the stars. The sunset-front beds in August are the booking that matters, on a €1,500 guide, and they are committed well before the month starts. It is open daily through the season and works as a long lunch as well as it works as the start of a night.

Dinner: the Promenade and the old port

Porto Cervo's dinner has moved to the Promenade du Port, where the international names sit side by side over the water — Zuma and Novikov have summer rooms here, and the people-watching between them is the coast's evening sport. The old port and the Piazzetta above it keep the classic Sardinian tables: seafood, bottarga, Vermentino from the hills behind, and rooms that have fed the same August families for decades. Out along the coast, the grand hotels of the Costa Smeralda — Cala di Volpe first among them — keep dining rooms that are destinations in their own right, and the beach clubs at Liscia di Vacca and Petra Ruja run lunch into the afternoon. None of the dinner tables carries a club minimum; all of them are placed ahead in August.

After midnight: two rooms

Billionaire Porto Cervo is the flagship — Flavio Briatore's original club above the port, where August's yacht crowd ends up after dinner. Shows, a packed floor, the Mediterranean's most concentrated VIP table map, Wednesday to Saturday on a €3,000 guide, with the energy peaking across the middle two weeks of August. Sottovento has been the late room since the eighties — intimate by superclub standards, Thursday to Sunday on a €2,000 guide, and all the more selective for its size. August tables at both are arranged ahead, not at the door. There is nothing else, and the coast does not need it.

The boat is the plan

The Costa Smeralda is the most beautiful cruising water in the Mediterranean — granite coves, the Maddalena archipelago an hour north, and water that photographs like the Caribbean. The day is the boat: out of the marina mid-morning, a cove for the swim, lunch at a beach club with the tender waiting, back for Phi Beach at sunset. Day boats run on a €5,000–9,000 high-season guide for a 20–25 m crewed boat plus fuel; see yacht hire in Sardinia. September brings the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the marina at its most serious.

When, and how to arrive

June to September, and August is the season in a way it is nowhere else in Italy — the coast is built for that month and priced for it. July is the smart alternative: the same rooms, the same water, and a fortnight's notice usually works where in August it would not. Olbia is the airport, thirty to forty minutes below the coast by road, and it takes private aircraft directly. For the whole week on one thread — house, boat, tables, the two doors after midnight — start with the Porto Cervo concierge.
