Nice to Cannes by helicopter: which pad, and when it earns its place
At Nice the flight leaves from a dedicated helicopter terminal, opened in November 2015, with its own security check and a VIP lounge. The heliport beside it has fourteen stands and two take-off areas, so departures rarely wait for space.
Two places to land in Cannes
Cannes-Mandelieu airport lies west of the town and is run by Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur, the same company as Nice. It has a private terminal and customs on request, and a short drive brings you to the Croisette.
The city heliport is on the Quai du Large in the old port, facing the bay and right beside the Palais des Festivals. During the Film Festival, Cannes Lions, the Yachting Festival and MIPIM, operators run seat-by-seat shuttles into it. A tender to a yacht in the bay can be met at the same quay.
Which pad you use depends on the operator, the date and where you are going. A hotel on the Croisette suits the port; a villa in the hills behind Mandelieu or Mougins suits the airport.
Is the helicopter worth it here?
The flight is about ten minutes along the coast. Outside the event weeks, a car from Nice is often reasonable, and we will say so. During festivals the road is the unknown, and the helicopter takes it out of the plan.
