Staying and dining at The Alpina, Alpinastrasse
The Alpina stands at Alpinastrasse 23, on the slope above the village. Gstaad's centre is pedestrianised, so cars use the hotel's underground garage and valet. The hotel has 56 rooms and suites and holds three Michelin Keys.
Season dates
The Alpina opens only in summer and winter. The 2026 summer season ran from 12 June to 13 September. Winter 2026/27 runs from 11 December 2026 to 7 March 2027. Between seasons the reservations office answers weekdays, nine to five. Christmas and February half-term fill first, so families should settle dates by early autumn.
The restaurants now
Chef Francesco De Bartolomeis took over the kitchens in summer 2026, after Martin Göschel left at the end of the winter season. Megu stays Japanese under Tsutomu Kugota and carries 16 GaultMillau points. Monti, the sharing-plates room, is being reworked around guest residencies; in summer it hosted a Harry's Bar residency. The Swiss Stübli covers fondue and the classics, and there is a cigar lounge and a Japanese whisky bar. Expect the dining line-up to differ from earlier winters, and check which rooms are open on your dates.
Spa and families
The Six Senses Spa covers about 2,000 square metres with twelve treatment rooms, an indoor pool and a salt room. A Kids World keeps younger children occupied, which makes the hotel a practical base for a multi-generation stay.
Getting in
Saanen airfield is 6.5 km from the hotel. Its 1,400 m runway takes private jets in daylight only, and a helicopter from Geneva airport is about 30 minutes. By road, the hotel puts Geneva at around two hours and Bern at about 1 hour 20 minutes. Many guests fly London to Geneva and drive or fly on.
