Copal Beach Cannes dress code, in detail

Beach chic. On a bed during the day, swimwear with a cover-up is exactly right. At the dinner table it is resort dressing: linen, a good shirt, a dress, espadrilles or clean loafers.

The Croisette is a dressed strip and Copal sits on it, so the room lifts in the evening more than a beach setting might suggest. There is no jacket rule and there is a clear expectation.

What does not work: sportswear at dinner, and swim shorts at the table once the beach has turned. During the Festival the standard rises across the whole Croisette.

Dressing for Copal from the morning beds to the late table

Morning on the beds

Beds open at 10am. Swimwear, a cover-up and flat sandals are right for the first hours. Bring a hat and sun cream for the deckchairs facing the sea. Heels sink in sand, so wedges or flats are kinder all day.

Moving to lunch

Lunch is the centre of the Copal day and it is a seated service under the sails. Put a shirt, a kaftan or a linen dress over swimwear before you move to the table.

Late afternoon into the evening

In season, service runs until midnight and the room changes as the light goes. The velvet, the candles and the pink walls suit a change of clothes. Think a silk or printed shirt, a lightweight jacket worn open, a slip dress or a long printed skirt. Keep a layer for after dark in May, June and September.

Winter lunches

In the winter months Copal opens for lunch only, Wednesday to Sunday. Swimwear is out of the picture. Smart weekend clothes, knitwear and a coat for the terrace are right.

Events and private hire

Copal hosts weddings, receptions and company days. On those dates the host's dress code applies, not the beach's. When we arrange a place at a private event, we check the invitation's wording against what the club expects for that format.

Children

Children are welcome, and the beach has high chairs. A clean T-shirt and shorts at lunch are perfectly fine for them.
