The Pavilion
Men: a jacket, a tie or cravat, tailored trousers and proper shoes. Jeans, trainers, T-shirts and shorts are refused. The jacket stays on in the Long Room.
Women: a dress, a skirt or tailored trousers with a smart top or jacket. Not permitted: denim, shorts, trainers, sportswear.
Hospitality facilities elsewhere at Lord’s
Smart casual. Collared shirts and tailored trousers for men; no tie required. Denim and trainers are generally not acceptable in the facilities even where they are tolerated in the stands.
Edgbaston and The Oval
Both are relaxed by comparison. Smart casual across the hospitality facilities, no jacket or tie required, though the premium suites tend to expect a collared shirt.
A Test is a long day
Seven hours, two intervals, most of it seated, in weather that will change at least twice. Dress for the facility and carry a layer for the seat.

Lord's in the 2027 Ashes: the Test, the ground and the day
Australia tour England for a five-Test Ashes series from 18 June to 2 August 2027. Lord's has the second Test, from Wednesday 30 June to Sunday 4 July.
The series
- First Test: Trent Bridge, Nottingham, 18 to 22 June.
- Second Test: Lord's, London, 30 June to 4 July.
- Third Test: Edgbaston, Birmingham, 8 to 12 July.
- Fourth Test: the Rose Bowl, Southampton, 21 to 25 July.
- Fifth Test: The Oval, London, 29 July to 2 August.
The ground behind the rules
The Pavilion was built in 1889 and 1890 and is the ground's main Victorian building. The Long Room is inside it, and players walk through it to reach the field.
That is why the dress code is strictest there. Guests are inside a working pavilion during play, not just a lounge.
Across the ground stands the aluminium Media Centre, opened in 1999 and winner of the Stirling Prize. The Grace Gates, put up in 1923 in honour of W. G. Grace, are the formal entrance.
Lord's now holds about 31,100 after the rebuilding of the Compton and Edrich stands. On an Ashes day every seat is taken.
Dressing for an early-July Test
The Lord's Test falls in early July, so a light wool or linen jacket is more comfortable than heavy tweed. The jacket rule still applies whatever the temperature.
For women, a dress or tailored trousers in a breathable fabric works from the morning session to close of play. A hat for the open seats is sensible.
Lord's is in St John's Wood, and the drop-off is busy before the first ball. Arriving well before the first ball avoids the queue.
